Wonderful Windaroo

To travel here to Windaroo, we took a bus all the way from Newcastle. It was 14 hours long. When we arrived it was raining. Needless to say the was just about the worst our week was going to get. We arrived on Australia Day which is usually full of barbies and people covering the beaches, but the weather just wasn't going to have it. Instead our host family, Wayne and Fiona, invited us to come out to the local pub and eatery with their family. It was very nice to have hot meals and a cold drink after all those hours on the bus. We got to meet their children and grandchildren and chat over a few drinks.

Although the rain stuck around for a few days giving more than a few people a case of the grumpies, by Tuesday the sun had finally come back. Fiona took Brian and and I to a local pool and it was beyond beautiful. Sunscreen or not Brian and I still both got a burn, but it is a safe to say that we are healed now. Some of the kids (Wayne and Fiona's grandchildren) came to the pool with us and it was a riot. We had tons of fun swimming around the playing the made up games that they were so enthralled with.

We currently have a roommate who's name is also Brian and he is from France. Although his English is not that strong, we are finding ways to converse and find out more and more about each other as the days go by. His plan is much longer term than ours, planning to stay here at the Jackson's for a few months and in Australia for two years.

As for the projects that we have been working on this week, they consist of painting the roof walls and roof floor, working on a windowsill to prevent the rain from coming in the house, general house cleaning, and laundry. Not all that bad really. And at the end of the day we are always filled to the brim with a nice hearty dinner.

In just a short while Brian and I are going to venture into Brisbane for the day (I forgot to mention that Windaroo is a suburb just 30 minutes or so south of the city) and hopefully it will be a great time!

Until later,
Jes and Brian
